Manual Lymphatic Drainage

What is Manual
Lymphatic Drainage?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage, or MLD, is a specialised massage technique designed to support the natural movement of lymph fluid through the body.

Traditional MLD uses very light, rhythmic movements and a carefully considered sequence, working with the pathways of the lymphatic system rather than simply massaging more deeply into the tissues.

I have studied Manual Lymphatic Drainage and that understanding of the lymphatic system forms an important foundation of my sculpting treatments. But the technique I use for Brazilian Body Sculpting is deliberately a little different.

The Brazilian Sculpting Technique

Brazilian Body Sculpting takes the principles of lymphatic drainage and combines them with a more dynamic, body-contouring style of massage.

Rather than remaining at the very light pressure used throughout traditional MLD, I begin with lymphatic techniques before moving into firmer, faster and more targeted movements through areas such as the tummy, waist, hips, thighs and glutes.

The treatment uses a combination of rhythmic pumping, sweeping and sculpting movements, together with carefully selected wooden tools where I feel they will add something to the treatment.

The aim is to encourage fluid movement while also working more purposefully through the tissues, helping to reduce the appearance of puffiness and leave the body's natural contours looking smoother and more defined.

It is still very much a massage. There are no machines and nothing aggressive. Pressure is adapted to your body throughout, so the treatment can feel both effective and deeply satisfying rather than harsh.

Optional Butt-Lifting Sculpt

If you would particularly like to focus on the glutes, I can incorporate a more targeted butt-lifting massage into your Brazilian Body Sculpting treatment.

Using firm, upward sculpting movements through the glutes, together with work around the thighs, hips and the area beneath the bottom, the focus is on enhancing the body's natural shape and creating a temporarily more lifted and defined appearance.

This is a completely non-invasive massage technique, rather than a surgical Brazilian Butt Lift, or BBL. It does not add volume or permanently change the shape of the body. It is simply an additional area of focus that can be incorporated into your treatment if this is one of your goals.

Just mention when you arrive that you would like me to include the butt-lifting element and I can tailor the treatment accordingly.

My Approach

For me, the important part is knowing when to be gentle and when a little more pressure is useful.

The lymphatic elements of the treatment are light and directional because the lymphatic vessels sit close to the surface of the skin. The sculpting work can then become firmer and more rhythmic, particularly through the abdomen, waist, thighs and glutes.

That combination is what makes my Brazilian Body Sculpting treatment different from a traditional lymphatic drainage massage.

It is designed for someone who wants the lighter, less puffy feeling associated with lymphatic work, but also wants a treatment that feels more substantial and has a stronger focus on body contouring.

What You May Notice

After your treatment you may notice:

Less of that heavy or puffy feeling
A smoother appearance through the tummy, waist and thighs
Natural contours appearing a little more defined
Legs feeling lighter
Skin looking and feeling smoother
A temporarily more lifted appearance through the glutes if butt-lifting work is included
An overall feeling of being refreshed, lighter and less congested

Results will naturally vary from person to person and the visible sculpting effect is not the same as fat loss or weight loss.

For many clients, however, the combination of fluid movement and targeted massage can create a noticeable difference in how their body looks and, importantly, how it feels.

Where To Experience It

Both treatments take place at Lumiox in Bakewell, in the Peak District, or In-Residence in your own home or holiday stay, within around ten miles of Bakewell (a little further afield can often be arranged).
